Lee Young Ae confirmed to return as Dae Jang Geum!

One of the most successful K-dramas of all time led by Lee Young Ae, “Dae Jang Geum” (also known as “Jewel In The Palace”) will continue its story in a new K-drama. 

The producer of the upcoming K-drama Fantagio confirmed that the classic K-drama “Dae Jang Geum” will have its follow-up soon. They also shared that the original Dae Jang Geum herself, Lee Young Ae, has confirmed her appearance in the upcoming series.

Fantagio also revealed that they have finished signing a contract with a K-drama scriptwriter and that the filming of the follow-up K-drama is scheduled to start this coming October. The series is aiming to be released in early 2025. 

“Dae Jang Geum” was released in 2003 through the broadcast channel MBC. After two decades, K-drama fans will get the continuation of the story with Lee Young Ae returning to the classic K-drama. 

The follow-up K-drama was given a temporary title “Uinyeo Dae Jang Geum” which means female physician Dae Jang Geum. The upcoming series will showcase the story of Dae Jang Geum as she becomes a female physician.

Lee Young Ae will continue to portray the role of Dae Jang Geum. Meanwhile, there is no other confirmation yet if other casts from the 2003 series will also return to the 2025 K-drama. 

This will be the first confirmed K-drama project of Lee Young Ae for 2025. For this year, the actress is expected to star in the new series called Eun Soo Good Day which will be helmed by director Park Hyun Suk who also created “Song of the Bandits” and “Stranger Season 2.”

Lee Young Ae became one of the Hallyu stars after leading “Dae Jang Geum.” She is also known for being part of the projects “Maestra: Strings of Truth,” “Saimdang, Light’s Diary,” “Inspector Koo,” “One Fine Spring Day,” “Lady Vengeance,” and more.
